What is SoLoMo?

Internet Marketing folks have their own language at which outsiders may look in dismay while listening to a couple of internet nerds chatting about their daily activities at the water cooler. Starting with acronyms like SEO, SEM & SMO they look and sound Greek to those uninitiated in the ways of online marketing. One of the more recent additions to our professional lingo is SoLoMo, a simple word comprised from the first two letters of the words Social (So), local (Lo) and mobile (Mo). It is a simple way to say what you should be doing if you want to compete on Google today. Your internet marketing efforts need to involve:

  1. Social – Engaging social media participation that captures and holds your prospective clients attention.
  2. Local – Exposure in local media outlets. Including optimized listings on at minimum the most important sites.
  3. Mobile – Mobile ready website prepared to automatically accommodate the many screen sizes a website will encounter including PCs, PADs and Smart phones all with varying screen sizes.

A recent infographic published by Monetate clearly states the facts http://monetate.com/infographic/the-retailers-guide-to-solomo/

Social – 80% of Smart phone owners access social outlets form their phones.

Local – While 94% of Smart Phone searches involved a local element, 74% of ended with the initiation of a phone call.

Mobile – And 54% of Smart Phone owners use their device while shopping in stores, yet 44% of retailers websites are not mobile friendly.

What’s your take on SoLoMo? Are you taking actions to capture our ever mobile marketplace? Is your website ready?
